Plans for £400m energy centre on banks of Humber
Developer Able UK has unveiled its plans to build a £400m centre for renewable energy on the banks of the Humber.
The site near Immingham would become a base for the construction of turbines for huge North Sea wind farms.
Covering almost 2,000 acres, the site is the largest available for port-related developments in the UK.
The company intends to build a new mile-long quay, specifically tailored to suit the needs of large offshore wind turbine manufacturers. Alongside space for turbine construction and testing will stand a 300MW biomass power station, burning imported woodchips and pellets to generate enough green electricity to power half a million homes.
