Review of Code for Sustainable Homes water calculator
Faber Maunsell has been commissioned by the Communities and Local Government department to carry out a review of the Code for Sustainable Homes internal water use calculator.
The consultancy group's research will investigate if there is a need to amend the Water methodology and if so to provide potential recommendations on these changes.
The Code for Sustainable Homes is an environmental assessment scheme for new-build homes in England which awards a rating from one to six.
Mandatory requirements exist under the following areas:
•Energy;
•Water;
•Embodied Impacts of Construction Materials;
•Surface Water Runoff;
•Construction Site Waste Management;
•Household Waste Storage Space and Facilities.
The mandatory water use requirements in the Code reflect the fact that water resources are under increasing pressure in England. A hidden cost of excessive water consumption is in the energy consumed in treatment of water to potable standards, pumping to homes and post treatment of effluent.
To help with their research Faber Maunsell have designed an online questionnaire for those who are involved in implementing the water sections of the Code (e.g. developers, architects, M&E consultants, etc).
