Wetherby Building Systems Limited
Wetherby Building Systems specialise in the design, manufacture and distribution of external wall insulation (EWI) systems.
Since the company was formed in 1998, they have successfully developed a range of insulated render systems based on the four main insulants used within typical external wall insulation systems namely; mineral fibre, polyisocyanurate, phenolic and polystyrene. Wetherby now boast to have the most comprehensive range of BBA and ETA approved insulated render systems available in their market sector.
Following the clients choice of insulant (which may often be determined by the clients desire to achieve a particular u-value rating), Wetherby can then offer a wide range of renders and polymeric coatings, in a diverse range of colours and textures, enabling the Client to achieve their desired finish.
Complimenting the render systems Wetherby also offer a unique brick slip system, which allows the façade to match/compliment traditional brickwork and increases the scope for design.
With over 7 million untreated solid wall properties in the UK, the Government recognise the urgent need to tackle this poorly insulated housing stock, with an aim to reducing domestic energy bills and cut carbon emissions.
Technically, external wall insulation is the most efficient method of insulating solid wall properties. The externally applied thermal blanket allows the structure to dry out and warm up, effectively acting as a thermal store and in turn greatly reducing heating costs. As 35% of heat generated inside a property escapes through the external walls this is the single most important area to be insulated if property owners want to tackle rapidly increasing energy bills.
Wetherby offer a comprehensive technical service to ensure that potential customers have all the necessary information to specify the correct system that will allow them to achieve maximum efficiency of the EWI specification.
This starts with the creation of U-value and dew point calculations which determine the correct type and thickness of insulation to be used, this is then followed up by pull-out tests to determine the correct type of mechanical fixing. Detail drawings showing all the main elevations are then prepared to include all recommended changes to the existing features which will allow for the extra external insulation (such as window sills) and ensure that the insulation and render is correctly installed and achieves a complete watertight finish to the external fabric of the property.
To enable them to maintain the highest quality standards in the use of their products and systems, Wetherby have a substantial UK wide network of approved contractors who have been trained & assessed in the application of Wetherby products and systems and who are regularly inspected to ensure specifications and best site practices are followed. Following practical completion a comprehensive joint warranty can then be issued for each property.
Their superior range of products and services has propelled Wetherby to become clear market leaders in their industry and they are currently working very closely with social landlords and energy providers to manage rapid expansion as government initiatives begin to tackle the solid wall housing sector.
Over recent years Wetherby have worked closely with many of the UK’s main energy providers and have assisted in securing significant levels of CERT funding for external wall insulation projects for their Clients.
Following the introduction of CESP, Wetherby has forged close links with Clients and energy companies where qualifying areas are being treated with external wall insulation and despite a slow start, the summer of 2011 will see a significant increase in external wall insulation as many energy funded CESP schemes begin. CESP will continue until 2012 when the Green Deal is then planned to be introduce to further expand and fund external wall insulation for solid wall properties.
Again, Wetherby are working closely with DECC, OFGEM, EST and other government agencies to implement this scheme and manage this new initiative.
Exact details of the Green Deal are still being agreed but as there is an urgent need to reduce carbon emissions on all UK housing stock, it is expected that individual home owners will be able to access significant levels of monetary funding to allow them to install external wall insulation measures to their private solid wall properties. As clear market leaders Wetherby expect to be at the forefront of this development.
